For me as a former gym and Zumba lover, yoga was always something that I wanted to try. Yet as a total beginner I felt a bit overwhelmed as to what type of class to go for. Since starting classes with Susie, I realise that yoga is more a tool for life that has many benefits in and away from classes. Susie is refreshingly down to earth, patient and a great teacher.

My Approach

My classes are designed to improve health and wellbeing on all levels. The yoga postures work to release muscular tension and develop a strong and mobile body. The mindful focus helps to reduce stress by cultivating an attentive, compassionate and more creative approach to yoga and life.

Drawing on my experience as a trained mindfulness teacher, I offer specific guidance during class that helps you integrate mindfulness into your yoga practice. Mindfulness helps us to pay attention to our experience in the present moment rather than ruminating about the past or worrying about the future. It enables us to meet ourselves with greater clarity and care in the moment, freeing us from stress inducing patterns and empowering us to have greater choice in our lives.

Mindfulness radically enhances the benefit of doing postures and the insights you gain from your practice have far greater potential for creating profound and positive changes in the rest of your life.

So whether you simply want to improve your flexibility, or are curious about what you can learn about yourself and the world through yoga, this combination of practices enables you to explore at the level you wish, whilst cultivating wisdom and care.

What happens in class

When you come to class I will support you in setting up stable and healthily aligned postures as a baseline. From there, we will bring awareness to various aspects of experience in the moment as we move through a yoga sequence. This includes being aware of breath, bodily sensations, exploring the edge in a pose and perhaps any thoughts and emotions that may arise. This is all held with an attitude of curiosity and lightness. The class will end with rest and a short body scan to support you in feeling more embodied, whole and clear in the present moment as you resume the activities of your day.
